PARUSA BY CHEESE/QUESO: A SONG REVIEW AND THE VIEW OF KNOWING YOUR TRUE FAITH

For so many years you’ve been lying to yourselves

Overwritten the scripts

Praying to your so -called “Precious Stones.”

Making it your god

Making you a fool

Making it severely very hard to believe

Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?

Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?!

Cause I think you are lying (3x)

Time to think

Time to reflect

Time to uphold the truth

I’m so tired of your stupid rituals

You’re just taunting me

Following your own words

Not His teachings

I was once a believer of your institution, your realm

But I felt nothing

Always searching for the truth

But all you gave me were lies

But all you gave me were lies

And you keep on denying (3x)

Once a teardrop fell in my hands

Once a believer of your stupid processions

Murdered by faith

The world has taken, has taken you, taken you away

The world has taken, has taken you, has taken, the world has taken (3x)

And you keep on denying (3x)

Year 2002 when I first listened to this song and my first impression here was so chaotic but powerful. Napakagulo ng kanta kung papakinggan mo. Ito rin yung kanta na kapag narinig ko ito ay hinihina ko ang radyo dahil ayaw ng nanay ko na making sa mga maiiingay na tugtog hehehe. Anyway, for the past years and when I went back kung kumusta na ang Queso, I listened to this song again and this is very deep and striking. Some of us know that this is about religion na hanggang ngayon ay existing pa rin. This song depicts that our faith was divided into many many sects, divided by idolatry, divided by false gods and prophets, fake pastors, fake church, and fake believers.

If you will take a look at the first verse of the song, Ian slaps the people who are believing in “precious stones” which he is referring to statues of “gods.” While the second verse talks about false preachers. If you take the line “Following your own words, not His teachings.” It means we are referring to the preachers who are claiming themselves as “the lord,” trying to brainwash people into his teachings instead of teachings from our ONE TRUE GOD. Napakaraming ganito sa mundo na kung saan iginigiit nila na sila raw ay sugo ng Diyos, sila raw ay propeta, at kung anu-ano pa.

The line “Once a teardrop fell in my hands. Once a believer of your stupid processions murdered by faith.” Is the part that sounds like the sad side of the persona na minsang naniwala sa isang relihiyong napupuno pala ng kasinungalingan at tuluyan siyang nabulag ng “pananampalataya.” Then I can say that the line “The world has taken, has taken you, taken you away…” is like a repetition of the world that you will become dead in the soil of the earth, not in the Heaven. The repetitive line that for me, depicts that hell awaits for those blind believers.

As a Catholic, hindi ko masisisi si Ian at ang bandang Queso sa ganoong perspektiba nila sa relihiyon. Talagang totoo ang sinasabi ng kanta sapagkat religion is a mad-made organization. Hindi kailanman maliligtas ng relihiyon ang buhay mo kundi ang tunay mong pananampalataya sa tunay na Panginoong Diyos Ama.
